The Netherlands Internet Exchange (abbreviated as NL-ix, with the last two letters typeset in lowercase) is an Internet exchange in the Netherlands, which is distributed across twenty-five data centres in ten cities: Aalsmeer, Almere, Alphen aan den Rijn, Amsterdam, Capelle aan den IJssel, Ede, Haarlem, Hilversum, Rotterdam and Schiphol-Rijk.[1] The exchange was founded in 2002 to serve as an alternative to the Amsterdam Internet Exchange.[2] As of December 2, 2008, the daily average inbound traffic is 34.78 Gbit/s and the outbound traffic 34.77 Gbit/s[3] and 195 members are connected on 441 ports.[4] On March 4, 2011, it was announced that Dutch landline and mobile telecommunications company KPN had purchased and, subsequently, acquired the exchange[5]
