Wiconisco Township is a township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,168 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 10.1 square miles (26.1 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,168 people, 476 households, and 330 families residing in the township. The population density was 115.9 people per square mile (44.7/km²). There were 530 housing units at an average density of 52.6/sq mi (20.3/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.72% White, 0.17% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.43% Asian, and 0.43% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.09% of the population.

There were 476 households out of which 26.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.6% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.92.

In the township the population was spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $33,654, and the median income for a family was $38,182. Males had a median income of $31,333 versus $21,394 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,268. About 7.1% of families and 9.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 12.2% of those under age 18 and 9.2% of those age 65 or over.
