The UIC College of Business Administration (CBA) is the
business school of theUniversity of Illinois at Chicago . The faculty is divided into four departments:Accounting ;Finance ; Information and Decision Sciences; and, Managerial Studies (which includesentrepreneurship ,management , andmarketing ). The CBA offers undergraduate degrees and, in the guise of the Liautaud Graduate School of Business, graduate degrees. The college is also home to eight academic institutes and centers.The CBA should not be confused with the executive MBA program offered in Chicago by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The CBA is a fully-functioning business school, not a satellite campus nor a strictly part-time program.
College History
Business courses were first offered at the University of Illinois facility at Navy Pier in 1946. The first degree was conferred the following year. Two years later, in 1968, a graduate program was established and in 1969, an MBA program was approved. The college received AACSB accreditation in 1971.
In 1982, The Circle Campus and the Medical Center were merged to form the University of Illinois at Chicago. Five years after that, a PhD program was approved for the CBA and, in 1993, the first PhD was awarded. Jimmy John's restaurant chain, the Liautaud Graduate School of Business was created in 2003 to unify all graduate instruction in the college.The first research center in the CBA was the Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, founded in 1982. [http://www.uic.edu/cba/ies/welcome.html Welcome ] ] The Center for Research in Information Management was established in 1988; and, the 1990's saw the founding of many other centers: the Center for Human Resource Management (1991), the Center for Urban Business (1992), the Center for Urban Real Estate (1996), and the Integritas Institute (1997). The most recent center, the International Center for Futures and Derivatives, was established in 2006 through a grant from the

The Liautaud Graduate School of Business (LGSB, housed within the CBA) offers four master's level degrees: a
Master of Business Administration , a Master of Arts inReal Estate , a Master of Science in Accounting, and a Master of Science in Management Information Systems.MBA Program
The Liautaud MBA program offers three forms of specialization:
1) concentrations in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, international business administration, management, management information systems, marketing, operations management, and real estate;
2) joint degrees in accounting, management information systems, medicine, nursing and public health; and,
3) self-directed concentrations (with approval).Project courses and a strong relationship with the
Chicago business community are hallmarks of the LGSB. The facilities of UIC (e.g. a large medical school) let MBA students gain real-world experience: In the past two years, several teams of MBA students have won awards in national and international business plan competitions for their startup ventures. Some of these ventures are close to bringing new products to market.The 2007-08 school year marks the 30th anniversary of the MBA program, which is highlighted by an incoming class with an average GMAT score of 611.

The LGSB also offers two doctoral degrees: a

Center for Human Resource Management
The Center for Human Resource Management is a joint venture between faculty from the
University of Illinois at Chicago and theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana Champaign as well as senior human resource executives. The center seeks to discovering practical ways to better manage human resources.Center for Research in Information Management
The Center for Research in Information Management publishes information on developments in system analysis, data analysis, operations, and production management.
Center for Urban Business
The Center for Urban Business helps clients build and grow their businesses. The center offers training, consulting, mentoring, and a network of business connections to help with contracts and financing.
Center for Urban Real Estate
The Center for Urban Real Estate researches urban real estate in metropolitan Chicago. Center faculty edit two academic journals currently: "Regional Science and Urban Economics" and "The Journal of Real Estate Literature."
Family Business Council
The Family Business Council works with family-owned businesses to help them be more successful. The council offers both a support network of peers as well as educational programs.
Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies
The Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies aims to educate students about new venture opportunities as well as how to create and grow a business. The institute also seeks to raise awareness of the importance of entrepreneurship.
Integritas Institute
The Integritas Institute is concerned with discussing and promoting ethics in the fields of business and healthcare. The institute is a joint venture between the John Paul II Newman Center and the university. [http://www.integritasinstitute.org/about_us.php Integritas Institute website] ]
International Center for Futures and Derivatives
The International Center for Futures and Derivatives studies futures/derivatives markets and contracts as well as preparing students for careers working with futures/derivatives. The center also focuses on the development of such markets in China.
