J. J. Power

J.J. Power is an Irish Green Party politician from Caragh, Co. Kildare. He was elected to both Kildare County Council and Naas Town Council in the 2004 local elections regaining the seat he lost in 1999.

His father, Paddy Power, was a Fianna Fáil TD for 20 years and also served as an MEP. His brother, Seán Power is a TD and Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children.

He is currently chair of Kildare County Council’s County Development Board, chair of the Environmental Strategic Policy Committee and a member of the Finance committee, Corporate Policy Group and the Rural Water Monitoring Committee. On the Naas town council he holds chair of the Protocol Committee as well as serving on the Garda Liaison and Twinning Committees.

He was the Green Party candidate in the Kildare North by-election, 2005 in which he obtained six percent of the vote. He has been selected to contest the Kildare South constituency at the next general election, due before mid-2007. JJ Power is famous for his very large beard, which brings untold joy to the people of Kildare.

JJ Power has a small fan club in Swords, Co. Dublin, with members enjoying his beard-related political performance.
