Brashten ( _bg. Бръщен) is a village in southwestern Bulgaria. It is located in the municipality of Dospat, Smolyan Province.

History

According to Vasil Kanchov, as of 1900, Brashten was populated by 220 Bulgarian Muslims [bg icon [http://www.promacedonia.org/vk/vk_2_21.htm Kanchov, V. Makedonia. Ethnography and statistics. Sofia, 1900, p. 196.] ] , living in 50 houses [bg icon [http://www.promacedonia.org/vk_1/vk1_a_19.html Kanchov, V. Makedonia. Ethnography and statistics. Sofia, 1900, p. 269.] ] .

Religion

The population is Muslim. Most inhabitants of the village are Pomaks.
