Moosebutter is a comedy a cappella group that started in Salt Lake City, UT, and has been based for most of its existence in Provo, Utah. The quartet has performed at venues spanning the United States, with most of their shows in the Rocky Mountain region, most notably Utah and Colorado. Moosebutter entered the national scene after placing 2nd in the 2003 Harmony Sweepstakes, and has gone on to create 3 albums: See Dee, Udder Won, and Dee's Ember. Typical attire for the group is a Moosebutter T-Shirt, a red Adidas warmup top, and red Adidas warmup pants.
Moosebutter's music included a cappella versions of parody songs ("Psycho: The Musical," a summary of the titular film set to the song Music of the Night from Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera; "Harry Potter," set to the tune of "Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison), original comedy songs ("Uncle Earl's Hairpiece," "Rubber Monkey," "Funknog") by Tim Y. Jones (aka Mister Tim), and improvised renditions, typically comedic, of songs requested by audience members at live shows.
Moosebutter also provided music for commercial and independent media projects, including a song and appearance in the 2004 independent film "Sons of Provo," a parody cast song for the online comic "Casey and Andy," and an unreleased 2008 McAfee software viral marketing campaign.
A popular video on YouTube features four video windows synchronized together of user Corey Vidal lip-synching Moosebutter's song, "Star Wars: A Tribute to John Williams." This video was made with Moosebutter granting permission to Mr. Vidal to use their studio recording (Star Wars, from the 2002 album see dee, a recounting of scenes from the original trilogy set to the music of some of John Williams' most famous movie compositions. Ironically, the theme for Star Wars is not included in the compilation). Moosebutter filmed and posted their own response video, of themselves singing the song live in the filming studio, and posted it on YouTube.
Moosebutter fans are known as MooseHeads or MooseGroupies.
