According to the
United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 46.5square mile s (120.3km² ), all of it land.Union Township is bordered by Snow Shoe Township to the northwest, Boggs Township to the northeast, Benner Township to the southeast and Patton Township to the southwest.
Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,200 people, 448 households, and 361 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 25.8 people per square mile (10.0/km²). There were 506 housing units at an average density of 10.9/sq mi (4.2/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.00% White, 0.33% African American, 0.17% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, and 0.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.75% of the population.There were 448 households out of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.4% were married couples living together, 4.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 2.99.
In the township the population was spread out with 24.4% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 30.6% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 110.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.3 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $41,806, and the median income for a family was $45,568. Males had a median income of $31,172 versus $22,734 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $18,468. About 6.3% of families and 9.2% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 15.1% of those under age 18 and 7.9% of those age 65 or over.References
