According to the
United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 55.3square mile s (143.3km² ), of which, 55.2 square miles (143.0 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (0.25%) is water.Boggs Township is bordered by Curtin and Howard Townships to the northeast, Marion and Spring Townships to the southeast, Union Township to the southwest, and Snow Shoe Township to the northwest.
Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 2,834 people, 1,056 households, and 811 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 51.3 people per square mile (19.8/km²). There were 1,162 housing units at an average density of 21.1/sq mi (8.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.66% White, 0.18% African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.04% Asian, 0.11% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.49% of the population.There were 1,056 households out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the township the population was spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.3 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $40,168, and the median income for a family was $43,886. Males had a median income of $29,405 versus $23,028 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $16,030. About 7.3% of families and 7.7% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 8.0% of those under age 18 and 12.6% of those age 65 or over.Notes
