According to the
United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 45.5square mile s (117.8km² ), of which, 45.5 square miles (117.8 km²) of it is land and 0.02% is water.Gregg Township is bordered by Walker Township to the north, Miles and Penn Townships to the east, Mifflin County to the south and Potter Township to the west.
Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 2,119 people, 785 households, and 606 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 46.6 people per square mile (18.0/km²). There were 927 housing units at an average density of 20.4/sq mi (7.9/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 99.24% White, 0.14% Native American, 0.24% Asian, 0.24% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.09% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.42% of the population.There were 785 households out of which 34.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.5% were married couples living together, 6.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.8% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.11.
In the township the population was spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 12.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 105.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.5 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $40,858, and the median income for a family was $44,063. Males had a median income of $29,702 versus $23,400 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $17,504. About 4.5% of families and 5.9% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 8.0% of those under age 18 and 5.9% of those age 65 or over.References
