The A2 Ethniki or Greek A2 League is the second division of the highest professional basketball competition among pro clubs in Greece that is operated by the Greek Basketball Clubs Association (HEBA, in English, "Hellenic Basketball Clubs Association"). The league has 18 teams. The first division is the Greek A1 League, which consists of 14 teams.

History

In the 1986-87 season, the current A Ethniki format for Greek professional basketball, consisting of the Greek A1 League, which has a regular season and playoffs and the Greek A2 League, consisting of a regular season without playoffs was formed.

Promotion and relegation

A Ethniki, in its current form, has been organized since the 1992-93 season by HEBA. The bottom two place finishing teams each year in the A1 Ethniki standings are relegated to the A2 Ethniki division due to poor performance, while the top 2 teams each year from the A2 division are promoted to the A1 division due to good performance.
