Bobbie Phillips

Bobbie Phillips (born 29 January, 1968 in Charleston, South Carolina) is an American actress.

Biography

She originally went to college to be a lawyer but after taking an acting class in order to improve her courtroom performance she decided to quit school (while holding a 4.0 GPA) and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.

Bobbie began landing television work immediately. Her first acting job was guest starring with Halle Berry on a short lived FOX comedy "They Came From Outer Space". She continued to land various roles in television and independent films ranging from comedies to starring in martial arts films with everyone from Bolo Yeung, Jalal Merhi, Billy Blanks and Don "The Dragon" Wilson. Bobbie is a trained martial artist and performed most of her fighting and stunts in these films.

She has appeared on popular television shows such as "The Hitchhiker", "Stargate SG1", "The X-Files" (playing Dr. Bambi Berenbaum in the season 3 episode titled "War of the Coprophages"), "Married... with Children", and "Baywatch". She was a regular on the first season of "Murder One" which won a "People's Choice Award" in 1996 and has starred in a series of fairly popular made-for-TV science-fiction movies, "Chameleon, Chameleon II: Death Match", and "Chameleon III: Dark Angel". She had a supporting role on "The Cape". She won a "best guest actress" award for her appearance in the X-Files. She also appeares alongside Larry Miller in Wes Craven Presents Carnival Of Souls in 1998, she played the role of Alex Grant.

In an interview on the television news show "Entertainment Tonight" Bobbie discussed being criticized for not following a career path in one genre. She was told she needed to establish her name first. Bobbie responded that she was "happy to be working and enjoyed the many different genres". She "wasn't concerned with following the rules as much as fulfilling her creative desires". She also stated, "As soon as it's not fun anymore, I'm outta here. I've had several friends kill themselves that had what the world calls success. Fame sucks and money means nothing if you're not happy".

In the beginning of her career she had a small role in the controversial big screen Hollywood film "Showgirls" directed by Paul Verhoeven. This credit is often mentioned on the box covers for her later films. She has starred in several small independent films.

Personal life

She is known to a wide variety of different audiences for her varied work. Some know her for her action roles, others for comedy, others for horror and science fiction. She is perhaps best recognized by her unique voice which sometimes shows a hint of her southern upbringing.

A little known fact is that she is a successful entrepreneur. She and her husband built a hotel from scratch and in less than a year it was named one of the "Best Hotels in the World" by Condé Nast Publications for their 2006 Tatler Travel Guide.

She has one son named Mark.
