Area code 541

Area code 541

North American area code 541 covers all of Oregon except the northwest part of the state. Its service area includes the cities of Eugene, Springfield, Corvallis, Albany, Medford, Bend, The Dalles, and Pendleton. It began its split off of area code 503 on November 5, 1995 and finished June 30, 1996.

The 541 area code also covers a small part of Northern California in the northeast corner of Del Norte County through Frontier Telephone. The numbers in this area are 541-596-XXXX.

This area code is expected to run out of numbers by 2011; the Oregon Public Utility Commission has been asked to approve a number overlay for the entire area, resulting in mandatory 10-digit dialing for that area.cite web|url=http://www.ktvz.com/Global/story.asp?S=8493711|title=Commission seeks comment on new 541 area code options|date=2008-06-15|accessdate=2008-06-15|publisher=KTVZ.com] Oregon's other area code overlay, (503/971), already has this requirement.
