Saint Petersburg the second child but first son of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich andGrand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia . Crimea . He escaped the fate of a number of his Romanov cousins who were murdered by theBolsheviks when he was freed by German troops in 1918. He left Russia in December 1918 abroad theRoyal Navy ship HMS Forsythe with his father to attend the Paris Peace Conference.In 1949 he moved into Provender an ancient house in
Faversham ,Kent owned by the family of his second wife and famous for being a hunting lodge ofEdward, the Black Prince .
