broad gauge rail network comprising sections which, before nationalisation of the railways in 1948, were operated by the following foreign-owned companies:Buenos Aires Great Southern Railway andFerrocarril Rosario y Puerto Belgrano , a section that was run by the state-ownedFerrocarril General Roca after 1948.Buenos Aires Western Railway , a section that was run by the state-ownedFerrocarril Domingo Faustino Sarmiento after 1948.Central Argentine Railway , a section that was run by the state-ownedFerrocarril General Bartolomé Mitre after 1948.Freight services commenced on 1 November 1991 over a rail network mainly within the provinces of Buenos Aires and La Pampa but with branches extending into neighbouring Cordoba, San Luis and Santa Fe provinces.
