Cecelia Condit

Cecelia Condit (born in 1947) is an American video artist. Her work focuses on the contrast between the everyday world and fairytales, with topics ranging from female aging to the imaginary world of children to suburban cannibalism.

Condit received a B.F.A. in sculpture from the Philadelphia College of Art and an M.F.A. in photography from Tyler School of Art of Temple University. Currently she is a full professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the director of its graduate film program.

Condit's video works have been shown internationally in such venues as the Paris Biennale; the Institute of Contemporary Art, London; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Long Beach Museum of Art, California, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, The Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, and at numerous film/video festivals including the 11th Biennale de l'image en Mouvement, St. Gervais, Exis 2006, Seoul, and the Microwave International Media Art Festival, Hong Kong.

Condit has received awards and grants from major foundations, including the American Film Institute, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Mary L. Nohl Fund. In 1989 she was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. [ [http://www.gf.org/89fellow.html gf.org] ]
