The constituency covers central
Tyneside inTyne and Wear , with part of the constituency being north of theRiver Tyne in Newcastle, and the other part being south of the river, inGateshead . It is named for theTyne Bridge that crosses the river. Consisting of some of the UK's most deprived areas, this has been safely Labour since its creation in1983 .Following boundary reviews, Tyne Bridge is to be abolished and will not be fought at the next election.
