The constituency covers the town of
Wallasey , at the north of theWirral Peninsula , including the six areas:Wallasey Village ,Seacombe , Egremont,Liscard , New Brighton and Poulton, as well as Moreton andLeasowe . It is one of four constituencies covering theMetropolitan Borough of Wirral .History
A Conservative seat until 1992, it was held by such well-known Tories as
Ernest Marples (former Transport minister) andLynda Chalker . Increasing unemployment in the area saw the Conservative vote decline throughout the 1980s, withAngela Eagle of the Labour Party gaining the constituency in 1992. Labour have held it comfortably since then.Members of Parliament
