Products and services

CIEB global health plans typically include medical, dental, behavioral and disability, as well as business travel and life components. Plans are tailored to meet the needs of the expatriates. They are defined as employees of multinational companies working outside their home country on short, and long-term international assignments.[1] CIEB maintains its own, in-house international claims platform, and offers an extensive network of physician and hospitals for its members (including 550,000 in the U.S. and more than 141,000 outside the U.S.).

International history

CIGNA's history dates back to 1792 through its predecessor company Insurance Company of North America (INA), the first stock insurance company in America.[2] During that same year, CIGNA entered the international corporation, issuing marine insurance for a ship sailing from Philadelphia to Derry, Northern Ireland. In 1887, CIGNA further expanded internationally by appointing agents for the United Kingdom, Europe and South America. There were locations in London, Vienna and Buenos Aires. In 1897, CIGNA became the first American carrier to write insurance in China. Subsequently, offices were opened throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, the Near East and Central and South America. Today, (through its CIEB business established more than 30 years ago),[2] CIGNA provides expatriate services in more than 205 countries and jurisdictions around the world.
