Cache is a city in Comanche County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 2,371 at the 2000 census. It is included in the Lawton, Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is home to the Star House, which was home to the Comanche chief Quanah Parker.

Geography

Cache is located at coor dms|34|37|48|N|98|37|31|W|city (34.629967, -98.625226)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.8 km²), of which, 3.4 square miles (8.8 km²) of it is land and 0.29% is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,371 people, 865 households, and 685 families residing in the city. The population density was 699.7 people per square mile (270.0/km²). There were 952 housing units at an average density of 280.9/sq mi (108.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 73.68% White, 1.14% African American, 17.97% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 1.05% from other races, and 5.69% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.30% of the population.

There were 865 households out of which 44.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.2% were married couples living together, 18.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% were non-families. 18.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 4.6.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 45% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 9.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 92.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $31,359, and the median income for a family was $36,591. Males had a median income of $29,236 versus $21,750 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,892. About 14.9% of families and 17.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.5% of those under age 18 and 7.0% of those age 65 or over.
