Purdue Cannon

Purdue Cannon

The Purdue Cannon is presented to the winner of the University of Illinois-Purdue University football game. The cannon was first presented as a trophy in 1943 by an Illinois alum. Originally, the cannon was brought to the 1905 game in Champaign, Illinois by Purdue students who planned on firing it after their victory. Despite the Boilermaker win, the cannon's hiding place — in a culvert near the old Illinois field — was discovered by Fighting Illini student Quincy A. Hall who took it and held onto it until he suggested it be used as a trophy for the 1943 game.
