Raymond H. Bateman is an American Republican Party politician, who represented the 16th District in the
New Jersey Senate in the 1960s and 70s, and was the Republican candidate forGovernor of New Jersey in 1977. He is the father ofChristopher Bateman , who now occupies the same Senate district.Bateman was born on
October 29 ,1927 inSomerville, New Jersey and is a lifelong resident of Somerset County. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1945 andWesleyan University in 1950.
