Melbourne Markets

Melbourne Markets

The Melbourne Markets relates to the Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market operated by the Melbourne Market Authority.

The Melbourne Markets complex contains the:

  • Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market
  • National Flower Centre
  • Nursery Market

The markets are located on a 33-hectare site in Footscray Road, West Melbourne. They are adjacent to the Melbourne Fish Markets, the Port of Melbourne and the South Dynon railway yards and are to be moved to Epping by 2012[1] in order to facilitate access to the railway yards from the port.

Melbourne's wholesale markets have been at their current location since 1969. Prior to that they were at the Queen Victoria Market and before that the Western Market in Collins Street which opened in 1841.
