- Kapchorwa District
Kapchorwa is a district in eastern
Uganda . It shares borders with the districts of Mbale in the west and south, Nakapiripirit in the north and the Republic of Kenya in the east and south. It covers an area of 1,738 km2.Under the colonial administration, Kapchorwa was
Sebei County , located in North Bugisu in the now defunctBukedi District . Kapchorwa was granted district status on February 1 1962, shortly before Uganda became an independent nation.Kapchorwa is home to most of the kalejin people: the Sapiny and few of the Pokot and the Nandi's who are Kalejins as well; they were mainly cattle keepers in the late 1960 but a change was seen when the neighbours, the karimojong raided most of their cattle, and displaced hundreds of people along the Kapchorwa plains especially Ngenge Sub-County of Kapchorwa district and Bukwa district, this brought in about a change that has resulted in apject poverty towards the affected and displaced households and has forced people to live in camps with very limited resources.
