Steve Patterson is a Canadian stand-up comedian originally from Montreal, Quebec, who has been on the comedy circuit full-time since 1996. He draws material from observation of daily/current events and what goes on in the room during a show. He first set foot on the stage at the age of 18 on a dare from his university dorm mates.cite web | title=Just For Laughs Bio |work=Just For Laughs Bio |url=http://www.justforlaughs.ca/community/show/102-steve-patterson|accessdate=2008-01-22] . This set was well received, but he spent the next few years away from comedy, as he finished his university degree in business from The University of Western Ontario.cite web | title=Steve Patterson Stand-up Corporate Comedy & Custom Corporate Presentations |work=Steve Patterson Stand-up Corporate Comedy & Custom Corporate Presentations |url=http://www.kmprod.com/s_patterson.htm|accessdate=2008-01-22] . He then earned a post-graduate diploma in media copywriting.cite web | title=Steve Patterson Stand-up Corporate Comedian |work=Steve Patterson Stand-up Corporate Comedian |url=http://www.speakers.ca/patterson_steve.aspx |accessdate=2008-01-22] . He performed comedy part-time while earning a living as a full-time advertising copywriter from 1994-1996.

Steve was fired from his copywriting job in 1996 and started performing comedy full-time. Later that year, he joined the touring roster of Canadian comedy booking agency, "Funny Business". Steve started out as the opening act for the tour, but less than a year later, was promoted to headliner status in Western Canada. Shortly after this, he began to headline in the Toronto market, which is very competitive.

In 1999, Patterson got a chance to perform at the Just for Laughs comedy festival in Montreal for the first time. His Irish-influenced set made it possible for him to tour Ireland.

Between the years 1999 and 2004, Patterson performed non-stop across Canada, Ireland and the United Kingdom. He also appeared for a few shows in the United States and the United Arab Emirates. During this period, he was the only non-maritime comic to be invited to the Halifax Comedyfest four years in a row, from 2002 to 2005. He also made his first Just for Laughs gala appearance in 2004. Also in 2004, Patterson performed at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. His showcase performances at this festival earned him invitations from U.K. based companies to return for a full festival run.

In 2006, Patterson was host of the Just for Laughs Road Tour throughout Ontario. He was so well received as host, he was invited back to the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal that summer. Once there, he hosted Best of the Fest shows, as well as the Comedy Showdown, pitting top comics from around the world against each other.

In April of 2006, Patterson took part in his fifth consecutive Halifax Comedyfest. He also taped a fourth television gala for CBC. Also, he recorded his own hour-long national radio program entitled Talking Funny with Steve Patterson. He is also one of the new hosts of CBC Radio One's The Debaters.cite web | title=Just For Laughs Upcoming Headliners |work=Just For Laughs Upcoming Headliners |url=http://www.comedyworksmontreal.com/|accessdate=2008-01-24] .

Steve gained some notoriety in 2007 as being the first comic to say no to Last Comic Standing when he qualified for the Canadian finals in Montreal. He turned down NBC to honour a local show commitment.

In 2008, Steve performed in Australia. While he was there, he was one of the guests on Good News Week, an Australian comedy panel show.
