Tonteg ( _cy. Ton-Teg) is a
village near thetown ofPontypridd in southWales , and is located 14 km (9 miles) north west ofCardiff .Tonteg sits on the west side of the
River Taff valley, at the top of a hill known locally as "Powerstation Hill". The hill gets its name from theUpper Boat power station which was situated at the bottom of the hill until it was demolished in 1972.Tonteg sits right next to the village of
Church Village and the boundaries between the two villages are blurred.The
Welsh Assembly Government are looking into the possibility of building abypass to relieve the traffic that travels through Tonteg and Church Village on its way toLlantrisant .
