Our Own English High School, Sharjah is a branch of the chain of schools started GEMS (GEMS Education) across the cities of the United Arab Emirates.It was established in the year 1982. The school has completed its silver jubilee in 2007.

Sharjah Branch

Our Own English High School, Sharjah initially started with a modest strength of 55 students and 5 teachers in Ajman. The school today provides education to 10000 students with the help of a team of 200 plus teachers. Until 2007, the school followed a split shift pattern, with girls and the kindergarten attending school in the morning and the boys attending the school in the afternoon. In September 2007, there was a separate branch for Boys.

Curriculum

The school follows and is affiliated to the CBSE curriculum.

Administrative Structure

The Executive Principal of the school is Dr. Farooq Wasil. With over 25 years of involvement in Education, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Wasil, a doctorate specializing in Education, joined the GEMS Education in 1986 and assumed charge of Our Own English High School, Sharjah in 1994. He is currently the Executive Principal, Our Own English High School, Sharjah and Director – Asian Schools, Gems.

Dr.Wasil was honoured with the prestigious National Teacher Award awarded by the Ministry of Human Resources, receiving the award from the Ex-President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in September 2005. In recognition of leadership competency and contribution to Education, he was awarded the GEMS Fellowship - “Leadership for Learning: The Cambridge Network” Fellowship in January 2006 to research on Leadership Management at the University of Cambridge under Professor John MacBeath.

Dr.Aninda Chatterji is the Principal of the school.
