History
The company, founded in 1998, started out as Organize Everything, a retail store in Riverside, CA. With a floor space of 9,000 square feet (840 m2), the store sold all types of products for kitchen, bath, laundry, garage, and other home and office related products. All products were designed to provide better storage and help organize things, whether in home or office. Terry Shearer, who is the founder of this company, always had a passion for gadgets and in being ‘neat’. According to the company’s website, Terry became interested in the world of storage and organization after a fulfilling career in the insurance industry and developed his own store which would sell storage and organization products.
Beginning as an online retailer
Within their first year of operation, Organize Everything made the decision to sell some of their products on the internet, which was an encouraging start. The next year, the company came up with another website, HangerCity.com which was then followed by TheStorageStore.com. The enormous success of the company with the online retailing in the early days paved the way for the future. Over time, the company’s online sales outpaced those of the retail store. In July, 2003, the retail store moved to a new location and the company added a 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) space for the internet processing center, which eventually grew to 44,000 square feet (4,100 m2).
Today
The company today is an online retailer with their websites and relationships with HGTV.com, Amazon.com, Cooking.com and has a retail presence on Ebay as well. Keeping in line with one of the main philosophy of making the shopping experience “Clean, Neat and Easy”, this privately owned company renamed itself Organize.com in 2005 [4]. The name is easy to remember and goes well with the company’s aim of providing its consumer with products that help organize their homes and offices better. The company’s online product catalog lists over 23,000 different products ranging from the storage and organization products to seasonal gift items [5], registries for Wedding, Dorm, and School Teachers, The Stationary Store @ Organize.com and a large section featuring home furnishings and decor, The Home Store.
