Guadalcanal Diary (film)

Guadalcanal Diary (film)

"Guadalcanal Diary" is a film directed by Lewis Seiler in 1943, based on the book of the same name by Richard Tregaskis. The movie starred William Bendix, Richard Conte, Anthony Quinn, and John Archer and marks the film debut of Richard Jaeckel. The film recounts the fight of the United States Marines in the Battle of Guadalcanal. This particular battle occurred only a year before the movie's release. While the film has notable battle scenes, its primary focus is on the characters and back-stories of the Marines who fought. Also, somewhat unusually for a film made during World War II itself, the movie shows the Marines fighting with outdated equipment and insufficient supplies.
