The Greatest Race on Earth

The Greatest Race on Earth

The Greatest Race on Earth (GROE) is a challenging marathon relay series, run across four of the world’s most exotic cities. These marathons include Nairobi Marathon in Nairobi, Singapore Marathon in Singapore, Mumbai Marathon in Mumbai and Hong Kong Marathon in Hong Kong. It was created and sponsored by Standard Chartered in 2004. The total prize pool of the GROE 2006/07 offers 1.5 million USD, one of the largest prize pools in the world of athletics.

Each team comprises four individuals. Each competitor may participate in only one marathon as part of their respective team’s relay. The team with the fastest cumulative time across the four marathons will win a significant slice of the prize pool.

GROE has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2004. Participation in the event has increased year-on-year, with over 30 nations represented in the 2006/07 series, and more expected for 2007/08.
