Its seat is the town of Głuchołazy, which lies approximately convert|18|km|mi|0 south of Nysa and convert|56|km|mi|0|abbr=on south-west of the regional capital Opole.

The gmina covers an area of convert|167.98|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 25,706 (out of which the population of Głuchołazy amounts to 14,887, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 10,819).
