Free-to-air DVB-T was launched on 31 March 2006 with the transmission of the national public service channels DR1 and DR2, and TV2 and the regional TV2 TV channels. Other private TV channels are expected to follow suit. All analogue terrestrial TV transmission will end on 1 November 2009.
FIFA World Cup 2006 was broadcasted in HDTV by YouSee for HDTV subscribers.
Also, the first HD channel targeting the Nordic countries, other than the Euro1080 channels (HD1,HD2,HD5), was launched in autumn 2005 by C More Entertainment and was originally called C More HD
Officially Kanal 5 HD was the first Danish HD channel. However, another Danish HD channel was launched the same day.
