The Bishop of Taunton is an
episcopal title given to asuffragan bishop in theChurch of England Diocese of Bath and Wells , which is within theProvince of Canterbury ,England ."Crockford's Clerical Directory 2008/2009 (100th edition)", Church House Publishing (ISBN 978-0-7151-1030-0).] The title was first created under theSuffragan Bishops Act 1534 and takes its name afterTaunton , thecounty town ofSomerset .The current bishop is The Right Revd Peter Maurice. Peter was vicar of All Saints, Tooting for seven years before his appointment as
archdeacon and is a graduate of St Chad's,Durham , and was trained for the ministry at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield. He was ordained deacon in 1972 and priest in 1976. He had a wide-ranging parish ministry inDiocese of Southwark and was at one timeRural Dean ofBermondsey and was also the local ministry adviser.
