Bishop of Taunton

The Bishop of Taunton is an episcopal title given to a suffragan bishop in the Church of England Diocese of Bath and Wells, which is within the Province of Canterbury, England."Crockford's Clerical Directory 2008/2009 (100th edition)", Church House Publishing (ISBN 978-0-7151-1030-0).] The title was first created under the Suffragan Bishops Act 1534 and takes its name after Taunton, the county town of Somerset.

The current bishop is The Right Revd Peter Maurice. Peter was vicar of All Saints, Tooting for seven years before his appointment as archdeacon and is a graduate of St Chad's, Durham, and was trained for the ministry at the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield. He was ordained deacon in 1972 and priest in 1976. He had a wide-ranging parish ministry in Diocese of Southwark and was at one time Rural Dean of Bermondsey and was also the local ministry adviser.
