Grenada United Labor Party

The Grenada United Labor Party is a political party in Grenada, founded by former prime minister Sir Eric Gairy.

The GULP won two seats out of 15 in the House of Representatives in the June 1995 general election."Political Parties of the World" (6th edition, 2005), ed. Bogdan Szajkowski, page 265.] ["Jun 1995 - New Grenada Cabinet", Keesing's Record of World Events, Volume 41, June, 1995 Grenada, Page 40592.] It won no seats in the January 1999 general election, but Michael Baptiste of the ruling New National Party defected to the GULP in June 2000, giving the party one seat in the House of Representatives.

Gloria Payne Banfield was elected as GULP leader in February 2003, becoming Grenada's first female party leader. In the general election held on November 27 2003, the party won 3.2% of the popular vote and no seats. For the July 2008 election, it formed a coalition with the People's Labour Movement; the United Labour Platform fielded 11 candidates for the 15 seats [ [http://www.belgrafix.com/gtoday/2008news/Jul/Jul05/GULP-PLM%20combination%20produces%2011%20candidates.htm GULP/PLM Combination Produces 11 Candidates "Grenada Today" July 5, 2008] ] , netting .84% of the vote and no victories.
