Its seat is the town of Nowogród Bobrzański, which lies approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi) south-west of Zielona Góra.
The gmina covers an area of 259.41 square kilometres (100.2 sq mi), and as of 2006 its total population is 9,230 (out of which the population of Nowogród Bobrzański amounts to 5,036, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 4,194).
