Its seat is the town of Sława, which lies approximately convert|18|km|mi|0 north-west of Wschowa and convert|41|km|mi|0|abbr=on east of Zielona Góra.

The gmina covers an area of convert|326.78|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 12,151 (out of which the population of Sława amounts to 3,893, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 8,258).
