Its largest village and administrative seat is Kotla, which lies approximately convert|11|km|mi north of Głogów and convert|98|km|mi|abbr=on north-west of the regional capital Wrocław.

The gmina covers an area of convert|127.75|km2|sqmi, and as of 2006 its total population is 4,129. The local economy is based around agriculture and minor industry.
