Prince Pedro Carlos of Orléans-Braganza

Prince Pedro Carlos of Orléans-Braganza (born October 31, 1945) is one of two claimants to the Brazilian throne and head of the Petrópolis branch of the Brazilian Imperial House.

Pedro Carlos was born in Rio de Janeiro, the eldest son of Prince Pedro Gastão of Orléans-Braganza and his wife, Princess Maria de la Esperanza of Bourbon-Two Sicilies. He was baptised with the names "Pedro de Alcântara Carlos João Lourenço Miguel Rafael Gabriel Gonzaga".

On September 2, 1975, at Petrópolis, Pedro Carlos married Rony Kuhn de Souza (March 20, 1938January 14, 1979). They had one son, Prince Pedro Thiago of Orléans-Braganza (born January 12, 1979).

Pedro Carlos' wife, Rony, died two days after the birth of their son.

On July 16, 1981, at Fazenda São Geraldo, Pedro Carlos married Patricia Alexandra Brascombe (born November 22, 1964). They have one son, Prince Filipe of Orléans-Braganza (born December 31, 1982).

Political beliefs

Prince Pedro Carlos is considered to be a claimant of the Brazilian throne by monarchists who believe the renunciation of his grandfather was invalid, but a Spanish newspaper has reported that Pedro Carlos subscribes to a Republican point of view.
