Along with on-air partner Bob Ojeda, co-hosts pre- and post-game telecasts for New York Mets games on local New York television station SNY.[1] Carlin is the play-by-play voice for Rutgers football and men's basketball games and is a co-host of the SNY programs "Beer Money!" [2] He was previously employed by WFAN in New York[3], where he had hosted a weekday morning sports talk show as well as contributing to Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton's morning show on the station. Carlin still does guest-host stints for WFAN from time to time.
Carlin is nicknamed "the Continent" due to his girth. He grew up in Chatham Township, New Jersey.[4] After graduating Oratory Preparatory School in Summit, New Jersey, he went on to major in English in college, graduating from Hobart College in 1995. He started his broadcasting career at WEOS FM in Geneva, under the mentorship of the legendary Mike Black, broadcasting sports of his alma mater, Hobart & William Smith Colleges, including Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse and Minor League Baseball. He was the station's sports director and also hosted a sports talk show.
He formerly broadcast Minor League Baseball for the Geneva (1993) & Williamsport (1994–95) Cubs – currently known as the Williamsport Crosscutters. He also called college football games for Bucknell University and did both studio shows and some play-by-play for the New York Giants radio broadcasts for several years. Carlin has also worked on broadcasts of men's lacrosse for the NCAA and the now-defunct NFL Europa on the NFL Network.
Carlin is married to Sheryl Spain, a freelance publicist.
