S&S Cycle is a motorcycle engine and parts manufacturer that was founded in 1958 by George J. Smith and Stanley Stankos in Blue Island, Illinois [ [http://www.sscycle.com/iframes/history.php SSCycle.com] ] . The company started by selling high performance pushrods for Harley-Davidson motorcycles [ [http://www.partsmag.com/0407/SS-0407/SS-0407.html Quality for 46 Years: Proven Performance by S&S] ] , and today they still make parts for American V-Twin bikes. History

Soon after the formation of S&S, George's wife, Marjorie, bought out Stanley Stankos and Smith & Stankos became Smith & Smith [ [http://www.portfolio.com/resources/company-profiles/XOM/press/2007/11/26/ss-cycle-and-exxonmobil-team-up-to-develop-performance-cruiser-motorcycle-for-jay-leno S&S Cycle and ExxonMobil Team Up] ] . In 1969, the company moved from Blue Island to establish a new headquarters in Viola, Wisconsin. S&S still operates at this location, but opened an additional facility in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2004 [ [http://www.themanufacturer.com/us/profile/2846/S&S_Cycle?PHPSESSID=c88bc S&S Cycle, Burning up the road] ] .

In June 2008, the company held it's 50th anniversary celebration in La Crosse, WI, over 28,000 motorcycle enthusiasts attended the celebration according to the La Crosse Tribune.

Engine Technology

S&S was the first motorcycle engine manufacturer to produce pre-certified EPA compliant engines [ [http://www.clutchandchrome.com/News/0701/News070118103.htm S&S Cycle procures EPA Certification] ] , lifting the burden and cost of performing the complicated EPA testing procedures from the companies and enthusiasts who buy S&S engines.
