Maxim Kalashnikov , first published in 1998 by the "Great Resistance" publisher. It is the first part of Kalashnikov’s historical, geopolitical and economical series of novels. The broken sword of the Empire is a historical/geopolitical analysis of
Russia in the period from the 1930’s to the 1990’s. The whole book is constructed as an answer to the question “Who was winning the Third WorldCold War ?”tructure
The 560 pages of the book are divided in 26 chapters, and are organized as follows:
*First part : the author exposes the problematic and central theme by a modern example (e.g.: the role ofAviation in the 1991Gulf War )
*Second part : Kalashnikov then shows how the technology/field evolved through theArms Race , comparing theEast ,West and sometimes Axis developments.
*Third part : He then compares the different technical achievements. Usually, Kalashnikov shows the potential that a particular technology had before the collapse of theSoviet Union .
*Fourth part : the author then criticises the post-soviet government for disregarding that technology or field (e.g.: Modern Russia and theChechen War ) [ "The battle for skies " ISBN 5-89747-003-0]Criticism
Maxim Kalashnikov is often criticised for not being objective in his books. The "Broken sword of the Empire", for example, contains a lot of insults and many radical-ultranationalistic arguments. However, it is acknowledged that most facts described by the author are true. Nevertheless, Kalashnikov uses a very well structured argumentation based on true facts but often makes subjective conclusions. This is why he has often been seen as а manipulator.
Achievements
One of the key accusations Kalashnikov makes against the Soviet government and the modern media is the fact that the Russian people have lost sight of their heroes and achievements. That is why the author decided to tell about these achievements himself with the main goal of inspiring his compatriots with pride and honour. That is why his books have become popular, especially among the Russian youth.
It is true that the elements exposed in the book are very hard to find anywhere else. Such things as the
AYaKS aerospaceship program, the Sovietplasma anti-friction generator , theEkranoplan program, and most importantly the names of the unknown heroes that fought inKorea ,Cuba ,Algeria ,Viet-Nam ,Egypt ,Somalia ,Syria ,Afghanistan but also on the territorry of theSoviet Union . To Kalashnikov, those people were the "Hammer and Sword "of the Soviet nation. They were unknown in the Soviet era because of the secrecy policy. That is the main reason for the respect and popularity of Maxim Kalashnikov in modernRussia ." [ "The broken sword of the Empire" ISBN 5-89747-027-8] .References
