History
WAFM was formed in the late 1990s when supplimentary FM licences were granted to existing licencees. The licencee in this case was North West Radio which is now the current Spirit Network. Originally WAFM broadcast to remote areas statewide, but this licence area is now covered by sister station Red FM. WAFM recently expanded into Geraldton with the acquisition of local station 96.5FM. 99.7FM in Carnarvon was also part of the network until recently. WAFM has been based in Perth for a number of years after commencing broadcasts out of its Karratha studios.
