St Peter le Poer was a church in the City of London. It first mentioned in 1181 when it was situated on the west side of Old Broad Street [ “A Dictionary of London", Harben, H.A: Herbert Jenkins,London,1922] . Stow [ A Survey of London, Vol I Stow,J : 1598- this edn,London, A.Fullarton & Co,1890] refers to it as a “poor parish” although modern scholars dispute this [“Vanished churches of the City of London” Huelin, G.: London, Guildhall Library Publishing 1996ISBN 0900422424] . Renovated between 1629 and 1631, it escaped destruction in the Great Fire [Samuel Pepys-The Shorter Pepys Latham,R(Ed) p484: Harmondsworth,1985 ISBN 0140094180] but was rebuilt further back from the streetby Jesse Gibson in 1792 [“The City of London-a history” Borer,M.I.C. : New York,D.McKay Co, 1978 ISBN 0094618801] . As late as 1884 it received a new Henry Willis organ [ Notes on Old City Churches: their organs, organists and musical associations” Pearce,C.W.
