- Sylvester Medal
The Sylvester Medal is a bronze medal awarded every three years by the
Royal Society for the encouragement of mathematical research. Instituted in 1901, it will next be awarded in 2009. The medal is named afterJames Joseph Sylvester , Savilian professor of geometry, Oxford, in the 1880s.Sylvester Medalists
