- Robert Van Rensselaer
General Robert Van Rensselaer (1740-1802) was a New York militia officer during the
American Revolutionary War .He was born December 16, 1740, at
Fort Crailo, New York . His father was Johannes Van Rensselaer, and his mother was Angelica Livingston.From 1775 to 1777 he was a member of the
New York Provincial Congress . On October 20, 1775, he was made colonel of the 8th regiment of the Albany County militia. On June 16, 1780, he was made brigadier general of the second brigade of the Albany County militia. This brigade included theTryon County militia . He fought atFort Ticonderoga and at theBattle of Klock's Field .He died September 11, 1802 at Claverack Manor House, New York.
