Diana-Trial

Diana-Trial

The Diana-Trial is a Group 2 flat horse race in Germany which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred fillies. It is run at Hoppegarten over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May or June.

The event was established in 1985, and it was originally run at Mülheim under the title Las Vegas-Slenderella-Rennen. This was in honour of two fillies, Las Vegas and Slenderella, who were the joint winners of the previous year's Preis der Diana. Its purpose as a trial for the latter event gave rise to an alternative name, the Diana-Trial.

The race was transferred to Cologne in 2004, and it was given a new title, the Schwarzgold-Rennen. It was simultaneously promoted from Listed to Group 3 level, and two years later it attained Group 2 status. The name of the race was reverted to "Diana-Trial" when another event, the present Schwarzgold-Rennen, adopted its title in 2008. Up to this point the race's distance was usually 2,200 metres, but this was cut to 2,000 metres when it was moved to its current venue, Hoppegarten, in 2009.
