Genital infantilism may be be indicative of
gonadotropin deficiency resulting from a number of congenital and acquired abnormalities of thecentral nervous system . Congenital sources of gonadotropin deficiency are described forKallmann syndrome ,congenital adrenal hyperplasia,Prader-Willi syndrome , andBiedl-Bardet syndrome . Acquired abnormalities include somebrain tumor s (e.g.,craniopharyngioma ,prolactinoma ,germinoma ,glioma ), diseases ofhypothalamus ,irradiation and trauma. Pubertal delay due to gonadotropin deficiency is treated withtestosterone replacement or with HCG Marianne J. Legato, ed.
