Jennifer Alexander (1972 –
December 2 2007 ) was a Canadian-bornballet dancer.She was born in
Calgary, Alberta and studied at the Alberta Ballet School. Alexander went on to study at the school for theRoyal Winnipeg Ballet , dancing with the company from 1991 to 1993. She appeared in the Broadway production of "The Red Shoes" in 1993 and performed in "Carousel" in 1994. In 1994, she joined thecorps de ballet of theAmerican Ballet Theatre . She married Julio Bragado-Young, also of the American Ballet Theatre, in July of this year.Bragado-Young had been performing in "
The Nutcracker " inWilliamsport, Pennsylvania and the couple were returning toManhattan from the performance when they were involved in a multiple vehicle collision on icy roads. Alexander died at the scene.The American Ballet Theater has created a scholarship called The Jennifer Alexander Dancer, to acknowledge an outstanding corps de ballet dancer.
