Sylvain E. Gallant (
October 10 1839 –February 11 1918 ) was a merchant and political figure inPrince Edward Island . He represented3rd Prince in theLegislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1895 to 1897 as a Liberal member.He was born in
Cascumpec, Prince Edward Island , the son of Mélème Gallant and Domithilde Gaudet. He was educated in Egmont Bay and St. Eleanors and went on to attend the Normal School inCharlottetown , receiving his teaching certificate. Gallant taught school for six years in Prince Edward Island and three years inNova Scotia . In 1867, he became a clerk in the general store ofJoseph-Octave Arsenault in Abram Village. He bought the business in 1898. Gallant was also a justice of the peace and a clerk in the court for Prince County. In 1868, he married Eulalie Arsenault; he married Rosalie Bourque in 1883 after the death of his first wife. He was elected to the provincial assembly in an 1895 by-election held after Joseph-Octave Arsenault was named to the Senate.External links
