According to the
United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 35.7square mile s (92.5km² ), of which, 34.4 square miles (89.1 km²) of it is land and 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²) of it (3.61%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,990 people, 699 households, and 543 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 57.8 per square mile (22.3/km²). There were 814 housing units at an average density of 23.6/sq mi (9.1/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 88.24% White, 6.13% African American, 1.56% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 1.16% from other races, and 2.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.36% of the population.There were 699 households out of which 38.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.7% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.3% were non-families. 17.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.18.
In the township the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.9 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $50,000, and the median income for a family was $55,121. Males had a median income of $38,466 versus $27,760 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $18,866. About 8.1% of families and 11.5% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 18.9% of those under age 18 and 9.4% of those age 65 or over.Government
Blue Lake Township is managed by a township board and is headed by the office of Supervisor. The current sitting Supervisor is Donald E. Studaven, who is now in his second term.
