The Torovirus is a genus of viruses that are under the Coronaviridae family that primarily infect vertebrates. Viral particles share characteristics within the Coronavirus family including a round, pleomorphic, enveloped virus 120 to 140 nm in diameter. Virus also exhibits surface spike proteins that are club-shaped and are evenly dispersed all over the surface. A nucleocapsid is present and is rod-shaped with helical symmetry with variable sizes. Genome

Within the viruses, it has a single piece of single-stranded, positive-sense RNA. The total length is about 22,000 nucleotides and with all Coronaviridae, experience rather complex replication systems including use of subgenomic mRNA, ribosomal frameshifting and polymerase stuttering.
